Day 223....the day England went back into full lockdown for four weeks. Yes a grim day!

End of September the German V Japanese Car Club staged a very well organised and covid safe ticketed event at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking Surrey. We drove our Mercedes 350 SL to join in the fun. Fabulous location and 100's of cars attended. It was so well organised and proved that it is possible to stage outdoor car meets with the right organisation. Having been cooped up for so long car enthusiasts were glad and relieved to get out and meet like minded people.

Concours of Elegance 2020. For the fourth consecutive year the celebration of the Worlds' most beautiful cars was held within the stunning Fountain gardens of Hampton Court Palace. The event brought together a selection of 60 of the rarest cars from around the World many of which had never before been seen in the UK.

The epic battle at LeMans 1966 between legendary rivals Ferrari and Ford was narrated for visitors during a competitive display between the GT40 and the Ferrari 250LM

To many be the the most stunning car was the Bugatti Type 57 Atalante Gangloff and the vehicle which possibly fascinated the most had to be the The Leyat Helica

Winning Best in Show at the Concours of Elegance was the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning Porsche 917K, one of the most famous cars in motorsport history

Day 151 Lockdown

Officially lockdown finished on June 23rd replaced by restrictions, limitations and guidelines.

We were treated to a very pleasant surprise this week.Very pleasant surprise. The London Concours went ahead as originally planned. The organisers did a magnificent job keeping Exhibitors and visitors safe with the strict Covid precautions in place. The weather was not kind on the day we attended but our climate does have a mind of its own....the following day was glorious sunshine. One could hear a pin drop walking through the City but one inside the grounds of The Honorable Artillery CompanyIn addition the the array of exotic cars from around the globe for the first time Concours presented 'Speed of Sand’ – a class dedicated to the world of hot rods. Other main classes were ‘Convertible: The Golden Era’ , ‘The Pursuit of Speed’ and ‘Lancia Legends’.

UPDATE 1st August 2020

We are now Day 131 Lockdown!

Summer holidays are cancelled and the race is still on to erase this virus from our lives and return to some kind of normality. As each day passes it becomes more apparent that a new normality will eventually be the new 'norm'

Events are cancelled or postponed and just as restrictions were beginning to ease the belt is being tightened again.

With regard to car events we are enjoying a few small local gatherings for enthusiasts to dust off their classics and meet up in local parking facilities. They are very low key and participants are being very cautious keeping the required distance and wearing masks if necessary. We are, of course, delighted to include images of these local events here.

The next significant event photoparazzi has been Accredited to cover is the wonderful Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace between 4-6 September. We sincerely hope this very prestigious event will go ahead as planned and look forward to displaying images from the event on this website, Attendance at London Concours later in August have yet to be confirmed. In the meantime we must all play our part by washing our hands, keeping our distance and wearing our masks. Simple really!! Stay safe x

Since the last update in March we are now several weeks in to lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

We are ALL doing our bit to stop the spread of this virus so with this in mind we are keeping a low profile and look forward to resuming normal activity once we are sure that good health is not at risk.

In the meantime we have been going through our archives of travel photographs. These usually get neglected and placed in files for 'future reference'. This quiet time of isolation and 'staying at home' is a perfect opportunity to publish our favourites in the Gallery 'Destinations' We hope you enjoy and maybe recognise destinations you have also visited.

The New Years Day Gathering at Brooklands Museum is always an excellent way to kick start the New Year. 2020 was exceptional with almost 8000 visitors and over 1500 classic cars of all marques filling the Brooklands site.

January is also Autosport International month and once again Photoparazzi was delighted to cover this favoured event for all Motorsport enthusiasts and fans.

To date in 2020 we have covered Veteran Sports Car Club Driving Tests at Brooklands Museum and the London Classic Car Show which was held at Olympia, an iconic location for this wonderful show.

Sadly everything came to a halt in March. Brooklands Museum temporarily closed its doors until further notice, events at Goodwood were either postponed or cancelled and many other events hang in the balance.

It will be a while yet until mass gatherings will take place and we all look forward to supporting our favourite shows, events, race meetings and museums etc

Surrounded by the Surrey Hills the Market Town of Dorking was the setting for The Rob Walker Centenary Festival on Sunday.

The Historic Racing Car Parade filled Dorking town centre with the sounds of race engines which included Ferraris, Surtees, Lotus and Cooper and a more modern Surtees TS14B.
, on what was most certainly an exceptional event for local residents and visiting Motor Sport enthusiasts.

Rob Walker was the last privateer F1 entrant whose Garage was in Pipbrook, Dorking. Between 1949 and 1968 the Rob Walker Team won 9 Formula One World Championships Grand Prix including three Monaco Grand Prix. Drivers behind the wheel during these races included Stirling Moss, Mike Hailwood and Maurice Tringant.

Following a run of superb weather the Auto Italia Autumn Motorsport Day at Brooklands Museum and Mercedes Benz World sadly fell victim to a day of continuous rain.

However, spirits were not dampened and the show carried on.

Unfortunately the quantity of cars in the Paddock suffered but the rain reduced to drizzle at Midday for the parade at Mercedes Benz World.

The weather held off enough for the Napier Railton to be driven out of the Campbell Shed at Brooklands Museum and participate in the Mercedes Benz World parade

Japanese Sunday - Goodwood Breakfast Club

Up at 5.00am and on the road an hour later en route to Goodwood for Japanese Sunday Goodwood Breakfast Club.

We arrived at 7.00am, it was still pretty dark and the circuit was almost full! Such is the draw of the Goodwood Breakfast Club meetings.

As always a varied selection of cars (all Japanese of course) old, new, classics and supercars lined the circuit.

When the sun came out it highlighted the wonderful colours of autumn showcased in the Sussex countryside visible from the circuit.

Lots of visitors out for a morning stroll to admire the cars and enjoy a delicious hot Goodwood breakfast.

No hanging around...enthusiasts have to arrive early as by 11.00am most are on their way home for lunch. The clue to the event is in the title!

Warm nostalgia returned to Brooklands Museum for the annual 1940's Relived Wonderful outfits, fantastic swing time music from the Kalamazoo Dance Band, vocalists and a huge dance tent.

Visitors had the opportunity of a portrait sitting in the Barbara Cartland Room at the Museum.

RACE RETRO ENTERS A NEW ERA WITH RECORD TURNOUT

FOR 15^TH ANNIVERSARY SUPER SHOW

Race Retro, the international historic motorsport show, opened its doors for 2017 with a fresh new look, exciting new features, and more cars than ever before to celebrate its 15^th anniversary at Stoneleigh Park, resulting in a record turnout over the three-day event.

With plenty of motorsport action, both inside the halls and out on the Live Rally Stage, 21,000 attendees joined the party with special guests including rally legend Ari Vatanen, Le Mans endurance hero Tom Kristensen, and former Motorcycle World Champion ‘Fast’ Freddie Spencer.

One of the show’s many highlights was the new Motor Sport Hall of Fame Live, featuring around £30million of stunning motoring history from the 1957 British Grand Prix winning Vanwall, raced to victory by Sir Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks, to the latest Bentley GT3 racer that had come straight from pre-season testing.

Hall of Fame inductee Tom Kristensen thrilled the crowds as he climbed back into his Bentley overalls and the Speed 8 in which he won the Le Mans 24-hour race in 2013, before taking to the Motor Sport Live Stage to be interviewed and taking questions from a packed audience.

A huge crowd gathered as Jim Clark’s Lotus 33 R11 was unveiled for the first time in public for over 40 years as part of a launch for the Jim Clark Trust’s crowdfunding appeal. Jim’s cousin Doug Niven spoke of the plans to open a new Jim Clark Museum in 2018, asking for support to make the fantastic new development a reality.

Race Retro’s 50^th anniversary celebration of the Cosworth DFV certainly turn heads with a display curated by engine designer Mike Costin, who founded Cosworth with Keith Duckworth, both Hall of Fame nominees for 2017. Cars featured in the tribute included the incredibly rare Tyrell P34 six-wheeler, the Cosworth 4WD, the Lotus 49B, and James Hunt’s McLaren M23.

Out on the Live Rally Stage, under the watchful eye of the team from Rallying with Group B, around 80 Group A, B and C cars provided spectators with thrill after thrill especially when former World Rally Champion Ari Vatanen got back behind the wheel of the Rothmans Ford Escort and Subaru Legacy he drove in period.

It was a huge weekend for Silverstone Auctions with its best Race Retro sale ever as 76 per cent of the lots were hammered away to the tune of £5.7million, over £1 million more than 2016. Notable Competition Car sales included the 1989 Aston Martin AMR1 Group C race car that went to a new home for £530,000, and the 1961 Emeryson F1 Climax FPF that saw the hammer down at £174,380.

There were also big numbers being spent in the Classic Car sale with a 1974 Ferrari Dino 246GT selling at £439,875, Jensen Button’s 2005 Ford GT at £264,375, and a 1983 Lamborghini Countach LP500S at £378,950.

Motorcycle racing fans were entertained by Fast Freddie Spencer, also a Hall of Fame nominee for 2017, who gave a preview of his forthcoming book in his interviews as well as announcing the winners of the Retro & Café Racer competition. Ken Perch and his 1964 Aermacchi Ala D’Oro was the runner up to Phil Knapton’s 1974 Suzuki GT750 two-stroke Café Racer.

The winner of the inaugural Pride of the Paddock award couldn’t have been more fitting, given it was presented by Ari Vatanen. Ian Thompson’s exceptional replica of the Peugeot 205 T16 rally car that Vatanen drove in period was chosen by the visitors and even signed by the man himself. The runner up was Marcus Ridley’s 1966 Ford Mustang.

Lee Masters, Acting Show Director of Race Retro said: “We have had incredible feedback from visitors with a tremendous response to our new elements, especially the stunning display in the Motor Sport Hall of Fame Live. Exhibitors also reported strong trading with 60 per cent rebooking for 2018 already. Planning for next year starts now!”

The annual Vintage Sports-Car Club Driving Tests returned to Brooklands Museum on the third weekend in January.

A good turnout and there was room in the Paddock for those cars not competing in the tests to park and be enjoyed by the many visitors.

The entire site, including the Test Hill and the Brooklands Banking was filled with drivers winding their way around the various challenges that had been laid out and it was great fun watching the competitors tackle the complicated courses laid out around the Brooklands site.

For the fifth year running CarFest South, the brainchild of TV presenter and Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, was held at Laverstoke Park Farm, the home of former Formula World F1 driver Jody Scheckter and his wife Claire.

The aim of the event is to raise money for BBC Children in Need and only visitors who want to have fun are allowed in! CarFest is not only a festival for petrol heads but for the entire family of all ages concluding with first rate music entertainment on all three nights of the festival.

Laverstoke Farm specialises in natural organic food including their own ice cream made from the milk of buffalo's raised on the farm.

TV Presenter Beverley Turner commentated throughout the event and she was joined by her husband Olympic Gold Medallist James Cracknell OBE.

Saturday kicked of with a serious 'fun run' which was led by a very agile gorilla which turned out to be Chris Evans in disguise.

Host Jody Scheckter eatery did some runs on his pride and joy factor - no ordinary tractor, a Porsche Tractor!

CarFest is a family fun event with attractions geared to appeal to all ages. Chris Evans presented a fantastic bunch of cars for the sprint up the hill climb along with other group classes including Hot Rods, Formula 1 and some impressive burn-outs by the Dragsters. Celebrity Chef James Martin was at the wheel of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for the hill climb.

Throughout the day on the Showgrounds there was entertainment for the whole family. The Kids Driving School gave kids of a certain height the opportunity to get behind the wheel of some real cars. New for 2016 was the Vintage Village where visitors could buy vintage fashions, jive to the live music or simply rest their feet with a nice cup of rosy lee!

Following a day of all round entertainment and fundraising the crowd were treated to some spectacular musical performances. Over the three day event, Jools Holland, Rick Astley, The Foxes, James Morrison, Alison Moyet were just a few of the class acts who performed on the main stage.

Pudsey the Bear showed his support throughout the weekend and gave it a big thumbs up when the final curtain came down!

The Festival of Speed is undoubtedly the greatest show on earth as far as Mostorsport fans are concerned. Each year thousands of enthusiasts flock down to Goodwood House in West Sussex to see close at hand some of the most exotic cars in the world and get up close to the action and the drivers.

On arrival the guest is drawn to the structure created by British artist and designer Gerry Judah. The creation which always dominates the front of Goodwood House. Festival of Speed 2016 was dedicated to celebrating BMWs Centenary so in recognition an enormous spike sculpture soaring into the sky supported three historic BMW cars.

The first day of FOS is dedicated to The Moving Motor Show. Since the demise of the London Motor Show Goodwood has incorporated an opportunity for manufacturers to display their range of vehicles and introduce new models to potential customers. This is not done on a small scale and each marque uses the most innovative gimmicks to lure interested parties into their temporary show rooms. Some lucky visitors even get the chance to be driven to the top of the Goodwood Hill Climb to test the performance.

Being the first and the quietest day of the event Thursday is always a good day to wonder into the Cartiers Concours of Elegance to see the display of mouthwatering elegance and extravagance. Situated on the Cartier Lawn adjacent to the house were a collection of the most exotic, iconic cars shipped in from all four corners especially for the event.

The opportunity to roam around the F1 paddock and Supercar Paddock, so close to the cars and the drivers as they prepare for the Hill Climb is unique. The quality and history attached to the cars participating would be hard to beat at any event.

The Stable Yard was dedicated to Mazda in particular the Mazda MX5 celebrating over two decades of carefree open top motoring for enthusiasts. Throughout the event musicians took to the Mazda stage to perform and 'Raise The Roof' before heading off to Glastonbury,

Another important celebration was to mark the 40th Anniversary of James Hunt's F1 World Championship win. Freddie Hunt's significant attendance dominated much of the show with Freddie driving his fathers Hesketh, book signing and generally participating in the good spirit of the event. McLaren naturally dedicated much of it's display to James Hunt said it all with the James Hunt's quotation at the entrance of their display! Sponsor Tag Heuer launched a special edition James Hunt watch to the luxury collection.

No less exciting was the journey up to the top of the hill climb. An outstandingly diverse collection of cars made their way past Goodwood House to tackle the Goodwood Hill Climb.

Terry Grant entertained the thousands of spectators with his amazing driving or non driving skills:

It was all heads towards the sky as the amazing Red Arrows swooped across the Goodwood Estate with a stunning air formation performance

On Sunday Lord March took to the wheel of the newly launched Bugatti Chiron for the Hill Climb ascent and became the first non professional driver to drive the stunning new model.

Meanwhile there was plenty of action for fans of classic rallying at FOS. The forest stage rally provide fans with thrills and plenty of authentic dust!!

The Paddock and Assembly Area were the main attractions where spectators gathered to spot and mingle with celebrities. The impressive list of celebrities participating included Sir Stirling Moss,

Crystal Palace is one of the oldest motor sport venues in the world. It staged its first motor race back in 1899 and since then it’s played host to some fantastic motor racing involving some of the sport’s greatest names.

From its early days as an improvised venue for enthusiasts, through the 1920s and 1930's when huge crowds came to cheer on the local Glaziers motorcycle speedway team, right up until the circuit closed in 1972, Crystal Palace really was ‘London’s Own Circuit’.

Fast forward to 2016 and once again Sevenoaks & District Moto Club and Live Promotions Events returned to the venue to host Motorsport at the Palace, a celebration of Motoring attracting racing drivers from all over the world.

Around 200 cars from racing and rallying spanning over 100 years of Motoring with Classes ranging from pre-war vintage modern day producing high octane competition with around 100 cars running each day.

Around the informal Paddock spectators were able to linger and look at the cars in more detail.

The Classic Motorcycle Racing Club returned to Motorsport at the Palace with a fantastic track demonstration.

The red, white and blue trio of Mini Coopers that were used in the 1960 film 'The Italian Job' returned to Crystal Palace where the scene's featuring the trio were shot. The three cars were on display thought the event and took to the circuit for a fe spins each lunchtime.

Away from the race circuit there was plenty of activity to keep everyone entertained.

The Savage Skills bike display team as they defied gravity with their amazing display.

Elle and the Pocket Belles bought their own vintage swing style songs to Motorsport at the Palace for the first time.

There was a fantastic static display of Motor Clubs from regional and national motoring clubs and a trader village with everything on sale from wheels to vintage memorabilia.

30,000 spectators descended upon the beautiful Principality of Monaco in May for the 10th Grand Prix de Monaco Historique.

Set against the brackdrop of the sea and mountains on the Cote d'Azure the biannual event organised by the l'Automobile Club de Monaco is a weekend packed with wheel to wheel racing of Grand Prix cars dating back as far as 1925.

Credit Suisse, key sponsor of the event, opened proceedings on Friday 13th May in the Credit Suisse Drivers Club at Rascasse Corner with the 7th Credit Suisse Historic Racing Forum. The theme for discussion this year was "Manufacturers versus Privateers" - The Battle for Motorsport Supremacy. The lively discussion of the differences between racing for a factory team and a privateer outfit was hosted by Henry Hope-Frost and joining Sir Stirling Moss and the Credit Suisse ambassadors Jochen Mass and Alain de Cadet on the panel were Emanuele Pirro and Ray Mallock.

Following the Forum guests were invited outside to the paddock where Sir Stirling Moss OBE was reunited with his 1956 Monaco Grand Prix winning Maserati 250f. It was 60 years to the day that he claimed his Monaco victory and guests were spellbound as he recalled memories of the victorious day.

The following day, 14th May Sir Stirling Moss celebrated his third Monaco victory. It was 55 years to the day that he claimed his third Monaco win and as he posed alongside the Lotus 18 with the cars current owner, Stephen Bond, and once again enraptured the crowd who had gathered with memoirs from his victorious racing days.

H.S.H Prince Albert 11 inaugurated the new Race Control which had taken several months to construct and will become the new control tower for the Historic Grand Prix and Formula 1.

Celebrations over, the following two days were packed with races from 6 series and a parade of pre war Grand Prix cars ;

The English proved their love of Motorsport. Over 90 drivers competing were British and the sound of the National Anthem predominated the podium awards

The Auto Italia spring event at Brooklands Museum is a must for all those who appreciate the finest in Italian motor cars.

As expected the queues had already formed when the Campbell gate opened at 8.00am.

One after the other the cars with their stunning paintwork descended on to the site ready to spend the day being admired, attempting the Test Hill and a special parade on the Mercedes Benz Test Circuit.

A host of the famous stars and evocative cars that will wow the crowds at this summer’s action-packed Silverstone Classic (29-31 July) revved up at today’s traditional Media Day curtain-raiser.

As the premier event on the historic motor racing calendar, the Silverstone Classic is firmly established as the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, with last year’s record-breaking silver jubilee extravaganza attracting more than 100,000 visitors for the very first time.

Judging by the attendance and fever around Media Day, 2016’s follow-up is gearing up to be even bigger and better, with the Home of British Motor Sport primed to host the ultimate celebration of classic cars.

With the variety of on-track action matched by a plethora of off-track entertainment, the sheer scale of the event is astonishing – and it is continuing to grow year-on-year, as the vast Silverstone estate is given over to a full-on festival of flat-out fun for all the family.

Some 150 of the world’s finest cars took to the Grand Prix track, while static displays in the paddock highlighted many of the car club anniversaries – with lots of models and marques set to celebrate momentous milestones this summer, including the 50^th birthday of the iconic Lamborghini Miura and 25 years of the charismatic Nissan Figaro.

Freddie Hunt was one of the undisputed star attractions, as the 2016 Silverstone Classic prepares to mark the 40^th anniversary of his father James Hunt’s Formula 1 World Championship crown. Freddie got behind the wheel of his father’s 1976 title-winning McLaren-Ford M23, and was interviewed by commentating legend Murray Walker for a forthcoming feature on Channel 4’s F1 programme. He was joined by Alastair Caldwell – McLaren Team Manager at the time – who regaled a captivated audience with little-known tales from the 1976 campaign.

Other big names to lend their support were actor and renowned car fanatic Philip Glenister and his co-presenter Ant Anstead from TV’s For The Love Of Cars,

Nic Hamilton – brother of World Champion Lewis – and former England international footballer Luther Blissett, who is an ambassador for new event charity partner Prostate Cancer UK.

Touring car heroes Steve Soper, Jeff Allam and Patrick Watts were similarly in attendance, and they will all be appearing on-track as part of the inaugural ‘Tin-Top Sunday’ in July.

For the first time at the Silverstone Classic, there will be four separate touring car grids – the JET Super Touring Car Trophy (1990-2000), Historic Touring Car Challenge (1967-1989), Big-Engined Touring Cars (Pre ’66) and Under 2-Litre Touring Cars (Pre ’66) – bringing together more than 200 of the nation’s best-loved cars.

In another exciting innovation, in addition to the ever-popular Group C twilight race, FIA Masters Historic Formula One, Legends of Modern Formula One and Stirling Moss Trophy amongst many others, the new Can-Am 50 Interserie Challenge will stage its season finale at the Classic. These extreme machines will provide an awesome soundtrack to the event as they celebrate their 50^th anniversary in 2016.

Extending the event’s appeal to two- and three-wheeled fans as well as car connoisseurs, this summer’s Classic will also welcome to the bill World GP Bike Legends – off the back of a successful debut at Jerez in Spain last year – and the Sidecar Salute, with 1987 500cc World Champion Wayne Gardner and ten-time ten FIM Sidecar World Champion Steve Webster both in attendance at Media Day.

Away from the racetrack, the impressive infield display will include live music concerts from chart-toppers The Boomtown Rats, The Stranglers and Reef, more than 120 car clubs exhibiting classic models from through the decades, Silverstone Auctions, aviation displays, a live Range Rover restoration with new event partner eBay and – for the first time – a Concours d’Elegance.

In a special feature to commemorate England‘s victory over Germany in the 1966 Football World Cup Final, meanwhile, a car football match with the Classic’s official courtesy car partner SsangYong UK will be held exactly 50 years to the day on Saturday, 30 July.

“Thanks to a tireless effort by the entire organising team, the Silverstone Classic has become a world-class event,” commented Nick Wigley, CEO of organisers, Goose Live Events. “Everybody works all year round to ensure that what we offer remains the biggest and best historic racing you will see anywhere in the world.

“I’m incredibly excited about the addition of the Can-Am celebration this year – the sound will be absolutely immense – as well as the introduction of Tin-Top Sunday. I think deep down, we’ve all got a soft spot for touring cars because they’re the kinds of cars our dads used to drive.

“Not only that, but having always wanted to include some two and three-wheeled action, I’m delighted that we have secured some absolute sporting icons with the World GP Bike Legends and Sidecar Salute.

“The Silverstone Classic has become the unmissable event for all of Britain’s car clubs, and this year there will be some 10,000 beautifully polished classic cars on display for visitors to come and admire over the weekend.

“Ticket sales for the 2016 event are really strong, and at such fabulous value for money, our new family weekend ticket has proven to be immensely popular. All the ingredients are in-place for yet another record-breaking Silverstone Classic!”

The Goodwood Members Meetings are unique motor racing events which recreate the atmosphere of the original BARC Members Meetings held at Goodwood during the 1950's - 1960's.

The 73rd Goodwood Members Meeting held in March gave visitors the opportunity to see demonstrations of racing cars never seen in a period.

The fiercely competitive programme of racing included Sports Car Races, Single Seater Races and Touring Car Races.

Race Retro 2016. The International Historic Motor Show at Stoneleigh Park 26th - 28th February. Now in it's 13th year Race Retro returned to Stoneleigh Park, Coventry to celebrate the very best in classic motorsport.

Bigger and better the show goes from strength to strength each year. 4 Halls packed with the very best in Historic and Classic Motorsport, exhibitors displaying everything from Classic and historic cars and bikes to 'retromobilia' and fine art celebrities and the Live Rally Stage.

The Live Stage Rally was, as always a hi-light of the show. Visitors are excited at the opportunity of seeing these cars in action rather than static in the exhibition hall.
